Can you give a brief introduction about your company?
Primp Beauty Bar is a full service beauty supply store. We liken ourselves to fairy godmothers/fathers behind the scenes ready to perfect your look!
What prompted you to take the leap and start your own business?
I was pregnant with my daughter at the time, when I started to reflect on the type of woman I wanted her to be. I realized that I would have a tough time guiding her through life if I continued to not live up to my own potential. So I first talked it over with my husband, then decided to leave my engineering profession and degree behind to go after the one thing that I would do for no money at all – helping women find their pretty.
What does your job involve on a daily basis, and what types of responsibilities do you have in your position?
I diagnose the beauty issues of women and men, place orders with different vendors, and keep an eye on the books.
What advice or inspiration can you offer someone just starting out?
Find a mentor who is already doing something similar to what you want to do and keep the naysayers at bay.
What would you say are the three main ingredients to a successful business?
Passion, creativity in the absence of money, and an expert attorney.
What can we look for from your company in the coming years?
Many more locations throughout the DMV!
What productivity tools do you use to get tasks/assignments done? (This can be an app, software, book, etc.)
Right now I’m stuck in 1985! I’m using my point of sale system and Excel.
Random fun fact about yourself/company or what’s been the best moment of your career so far?
The best moment so far was when my best friend, whom I had talked to death about my idea, flew in from California to finally see the completed shop and said, “I get it! I see your vision!” I was so happy and I couldn’t stop crying. I think validation is something we all crave.
